Anganwadi workers in Hinjewadi: 20 children locked inside to attend meetings; Released after parents' complaint

Hinjewadi, November 28, 2025: Everyone has been shocked by the insensitive incident that took place in an Anganwadi in Hinjewadi in the Pune area. The Anganwadi workers locked 20 children in a room and left for meetings on their own, causing a commotion among the children. After the parents' complaint, local citizens and police rushed to the spot and rescued the children. An investigation into the matter is underway and action is likely to be taken against the workers.
20 children between the ages of 10 and 12 were present in this Anganwadi in the morning. The Anganwadi workers and support staff locked the children in the room before going for the scheduled meeting and left them alone. A neighboring parent became suspicious after hearing the children's cries. Accordingly, he broke open the Anganwadi door and took the children out. "I heard my child crying inside, but the door was not opening. How is this a responsibility?" the angry parent said.
The local police have registered the incident and the Women and Child Welfare Department has ordered an immediate inquiry. The departmental officer said, "Strict action will be taken against the staff who are negligent in this regard. The safety of the children is a priority." The incident has also led to inspections in other Anganwadis in Hinjewadi, creating an atmosphere of fear among parents. There is a growing demand for stricter regulations to curb such incidents.
