Clarification from the Policy Commission on the demand to reduce the gap between the two doses of Covishield vaccine

New Delhi: Initially, the Covishield vaccine produced by the Serum Institute in Pune was given at 28-day intervals. After that this distance was increased to 45 days. However, when starting vaccinations for 18 to 44 year olds, the interval was increased to 12 to 16 weeks, or about 84 days. On the other hand, the gap between the two doses of the covacin vaccine has been maintained.

In view of the availability of vaccines in the country and the importance of comprehensive vaccination, there is a demand to reduce the gap between the two doses of Covishield. There was also talk that it would be reduced. An explanation has now been given by the central government. In the press conference held regarding Kovid-19, the health related member of the policy commission Dr. V. K. Paul has given information in this regard.
Currently there is no need to panic, change the vaccine or reduce the gap between the two doses of the vaccine. Such decisions need to be made carefully. When you increased the dose interval, you also considered the risk to individuals taking a single dose of corona. But at the same time, it would make it possible to vaccinate more people, which would boost the immunity of a large number of people, Paul said.
We must discuss such issues in public. But at the same time, we need to keep in mind that decisions can only be made by experts. "We must respect his decision," he said. He also said that a decision in this regard could be taken at the meeting of National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI).
The central government has recently allowed those who want to go abroad for work, study or to participate in international competitions to take the second dose of Covishield vaccine after 28 days and within 84 days. According to Central Health Department regulations, the second dose of Covishield vaccine can be taken after 12 to 16 weeks, ie after 84 days.
The new rules created a dilemma for those who had to attend certain days for study or employment abroad. The department has made changes after several complaints went to the health department.
