Former Governor Aziz Qureshi has been charged with treason for criticizing Yogi Adityanath


Lucknow: Former Uttar Pradesh Governor Aziz Qureshi has been charged with treason by the Uttar Pradesh Police. The case was registered against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday for making insulting remarks. A case has been registered against Qureshi at the Civil Lines Police Station in Rampur district on a complaint by BJP activist Akash Saxena, police said.

 
In his complaint, Akash Saxena said Qureshi had gone to the house of former minister Azam Khan to meet his wife and Rampur MLA Tanzeem Fatima. He compared the government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to a devil and a blood-sucking monster. Qureshi's controversial statement could create tension between the two communities and lead to communal riots, the complainant alleged.
According to the FIR copy, the former governor has been charged under Section 154A for treason, Section 153A for inciting caste-religion hatred and making statements against national unity and integrity. He has also been charged with spreading confusion and panic among the people.
