Ineligible mill workers will get MHADA houses! All obstacles removed by the government
Mumbai, November 29, 2025 – Mill workers and their heirs who were ineligible due to errors in documents have got a big relief. Under the Maharashtra State Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) low-cost housing scheme, these workers have now been given a special opportunity to complete the necessary documents by December 31, 2025. The Labour Commissionerate has given clear instructions to MHADA in this regard, which will directly benefit more than seven thousand workers.
The long struggle of mill workers is now coming to an end. Many workers were ineligible due to minor or major errors in the documents, due to which they could not get the benefit of the housing scheme. However, as per the instructions of the state government, the Labour Commissioner has written a letter to the MHADA officials and ordered them to accept the documents by the end of December. This is paving the way for thousands of families in the mill areas of Mumbai (such as Parel, Tore, Lower Parel) to get affordable houses.
Under this scheme of MHADA, mill workers are provided with a lump sum housing facility of up to 500 square feet. To complete the documents, the workers will have to apply at the concerned office of MHADA or on the online portal. For this, a copy of Aadhaar card, birth certificate, labor card and other necessary documents will have to be attached. Trade unions have welcomed this decision and said, "This step is historic for the just demands of mill workers," the leaders of the organization said.
This decision has further strengthened the labor-centric policy of the government. This scheme has become a major pillar for lakhs of workers affected by the closure of the mill industry. Interested workers should take immediate steps so that this opportunity does not go away.
