Internal strife in Karnataka Congress: DK Shivakumar warns high command to 'keep the word'

Bengaluru, November 27, 2025: An internal dispute is currently raging in the Congress party in Karnataka, and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has given a direct message to the party's top leaders. The Shivakumar group has now taken a firm stand on the rotation formula for the Chief Minister's post, which has been going on since he came to power after winning the elections. In a message posted on social media, Shivakumar says, "The power of words is the power of the world. Keeping the word given is the real power." This message is said in political circles to be for the party's high command.
The Karnataka Congress had won the 2023 assembly elections. At that time, a 2.5-year rotation formula was decided for the Chief Minister's post. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's 2.5-year term ended on November 20, and Shivakumar's supporters are now demanding their share of the post. Leaders of the Shivakumar group are constantly meeting with party leaders in Delhi for discussions. However, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has made it clear that the final decision on the Karnataka issue will not be taken without Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
Shivakumar, who tried to contact Rahul Gandhi, finally received a WhatsApp message from Rahul. In it, Rahul said, "Wait a moment, I will call you." The atmosphere in the party has become even more heated since Shivakumar received this message. Political analysts are saying that this internal dispute in the Congress can shake the unity of the party. Shivakumar's post has also created unease in the Siddaramaiah group.
