Solar fence for farmers in a forested village - Uddhav Thackeray

Mumbai, dt. 23- To prevent damage to crops caused by wild animals, Dr. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has directed that under the Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Jan Van Vikas Yojana, guidelines should be issued as soon as possible for the scheme to provide individual solar fencing to farmers in sensitive villages where such incidents occur more frequently. He also approved a proposal for additional funding.
The Chief Minister reviewed the measures to reduce human-wildlife conflict in Chandrapur district. The meeting was attended by Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Vaddetiwar, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Ashish Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Vikas Kharge, Principal Secretary to the Department Venugopal Reddy and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Sunil Limaye. A committee has been set up in Chandrapur district to suggest solutions to the growing human-wildlife conflict due to the increasing number of tigers. The Chief Minister also directed the committee to decide its policy in this regard.
Dr. The Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Jan Van Vikas Yojana currently covers 939 villages and some more villages should be included in the scheme as well as consider what other benefits can be given to the locals in the scheme, said the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister also directed to consider the possibility of cultivating bamboo, fruit trees and fodder in such agricultural lands through which the farmers can get a source of income.

Dr. In the Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Jan Van Vikas Yojana, the Chief Minister also directed to construct iron fence fences on the forest boundary in 5 sensitive villages adjoining the forest on an experimental basis. He said that Rs. 6 crore required for this should be spent from the campa fund. He said that although jungle safaris have been started at six places in the district, more places should be explored keeping in view the potential for nature tourism.
The Chief Minister said that cameras should be installed at the places where wildlife, especially tigers are found, to monitor their movements and some tigers should also be fitted with radio collars to monitor them so that people can be alerted and human-wildlife conflicts can be avoided.
Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation Vijay Waddetiwar informed about the growing number of tigers in Chandrapur district and the ongoing human-wildlife conflict. Giving information about various measures in this regard, he said that Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee said that the scope of Jan Van Vikas Yojana should be extended to include some more villages, including skill development in the scheme to provide forest processing industries to the locals, increase nature tourism in the district so that they can get employment. He also demanded that some tigers in the district be relocated.
