Suspension of Trinamool Congress MP Shantanu Sen for tearing a statement from his hand

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Speaker Venkaiah Naidu has suspended Trinamool Congress MP Shantanu Sen, prompting him to adjourn the monsoon session. On Thursday, Shantanu Sen snatched a statement from Union Information and Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav Pegasus while tearing it up. The BJP had earlier prepared a motion against Shantanu Sen. Meanwhile, Venkaiah Naidu has suspended Shantanu Sen.

The Rajya Sabha on Thursday witnessed an unprecedented uproar over the alleged spying of ‘Pegasus’ spy technology. Union Information and Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav's statement was snatched and thrown at the Deputy Speaker's seat. Opposition members chanted slogans in front of the Speaker. The security forces had to intervene as BJP and Trinamool Congress members clashed. As soon as the statement of the ministers was not completed in such a huge commotion, the work of the upper house was adjourned for the day.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav was scheduled to address the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday on the Pegasus issue, but was informed that he would present the Union government's position at 2 pm on Thursday due to the discussion on Corona. As soon as the House resumed its proceedings, the protesters chanted slogans on 'Pegasus' and farmers' issues. Speaker Venkaiah Naidu adjourned the House for the second time at 12 noon. As soon as Vaishnav read out the text of the written statement after the House resumed in the afternoon session, Trinamool Congress MP Shantanu Sen snatched the paper from Vaishnav's hand and hurled it at Deputy Speaker Harivansh. As the confusion increased, Vaishnav presented the statement on the table without reading it.
As the Trinamool Congress MP tore up the papers, the BJP members became as aggressive as the opposition. Trinamool member and Union Minister Hardeep Puri started arguing. Eventually, the marshals had to intervene to settle their dispute. Puri threatened me, he even tried to physically beat me. "I was rescued by my colleagues," Sen claimed outside the parliament building. Vaishnav has made a statement in the Lok Sabha on the issue of 'Pegasus' and is reading the same in the Rajya Sabha. The central government is fleeing with statements in both the houses. The Trinamool Congress demanded that the Center should discuss the issue in detail rather than issue a statement. Deputy Speaker Harivansh urged the Opposition members to listen to the Union Ministers without breaking the parliamentary tradition, but the House was adjourned for the day as the riots continued.
Opposition groups called for a boycott of the Lok Sabha on the third day of the monsoon session. Opponents were mainly aggressive on two issues, agricultural laws and Pegasus. The question and answer session was wrapped up in ten minutes and the hall was packed. As soon as the House resumed its work, members of Congress, Trinamool Congress, DMK and Akali Dal shouted slogans. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla could not even hear the names of the members taken for question and answer due to the confusion. Every member has the right to ask questions during Question Hour and it should continue unabated. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said the Center was ready to discuss all the issues of the opposition, but the opposition's sloganeering persisted. Even after that, the proceedings of the House were adjourned twice and finally adjourned for the day.
