The central government disagreed with the ethnic census, citing practical difficulties

New Delhi: Along with this year's census, several opposition parties across the country have been demanding an ethnic census. Many leaders, including Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejaswi Yadav, have earlier demanded the same from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, the central government has disagreed with the ethnic census, citing practical difficulties. It's too late now. The central government has said it is not possible to change the process now. Rajya Sabha MP and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi has given an explanation in this regard.

In this regard, Sushil Kumar Modi said that the affidavit given by the Central Government in the Supreme Court has clearly stated that it is not practical for the Central Government to conduct this census. This year's census will be conducted on handheld devices or digitally. Also, the entire preparation of this census is done three years in advance. His manual has been published. The schedule has also been prepared, the training work has also been completed. Therefore, it is not possible to change the process now. It's too late.
Backward castes are all over the country. When the socio-economic census was conducted in 2011, a list of 46 lakh castes was found. But, there will be rarely seven to eight thousand castes in the country. The central government has said that all preparations for the census have been completed. Now it is not possible for the Center to conduct last minute census for backward castes. But, if any state wants to conduct an ethnic census independently, they can. As Telangana did, said Sushilkumar Modi.
Later, Sushilkumar Modi also mentioned that a census was conducted in Telangana and Karnataka despite Siddaramaiah's government. Now, although Siddaramaiah's government has conducted the survey, its report has not been made public till date. The Odisha government is also preparing an ethnic census. Similarly, if any other state government wants to conduct a census, they have that freedom. But, the central government is incapable of conducting an ethnic census. An affidavit in this regard has been filed by the Central Government in the Supreme Court.
