Wanted to become a militant after being harassed by an army officer: National Conference MLA Kaiser Jamshed Lone
Srinagar: National Conference (NC) MLA Kaiser Jamshed Lone on Friday said he wanted to become a militant after being "tortured and humiliated" by an army officer when he was a teenager, but the actions of a senior officer restored his faith in the system. While presenting a motion of thanks on the Lieutenant Governor's address in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Lone said the senior army officer spoke to him and then reprimanded the junior officer for his conduct.
Lone, an MLA from Lolab, said the incident shows how issues can be resolved through dialogue. He said, "When I was young, military action was taken in my area. I was probably a 10th class student at that time. Including me, 32 youths were selected for interrogation."
Lone claimed that an army officer asked him about a youth who had joined terrorist organizations. The ruling party MLA said, "I told them that yes, I know him because he lived in our area. For this I was beaten up. Then they asked me if the terrorist was present during the operation. I replied no and I was beaten up again."
Senior officer asked, what do you want to become?
He said that later a senior officer came to the spot and talked to him. The NC leader said, "He asked me 'What do you want to become in life?' I told him that I want to become a militant. He asked me the reason for this and I told him about the torture I faced."
Lone said that the senior officer reprimanded his junior publicly which "restored his faith in the system". He said that later he came to know that out of the 32 youths who were interrogated, 27 became militants.
