The 'Honey Village' scheme is being implemented across the state by the Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board. He explained that the scheme is being executed with the objective of conserving nature through the preservation of honeybees in regions endowed with natural resources and abundant floral blooms. Furthermore, the initiative aims to establish a comprehensive value chain—encompassing the conservation and protection of honeybees, as well as the processing and marketing of honey and bee-derived products. Through these measures—and by fostering coordination among various government departments—the scheme seeks to render the 'Honey Villages' self-reliant, while simultaneously promoting 'Honey Tourism.'
Under the 'Honey Village' scheme, beneficiaries are set to receive 1,650 beehives, 128 protective suits, 25 kits, and other essential equipment. These resources will be provided based on a funding model comprising a 90 percent government subsidy and a 10 percent contribution from the beneficiaries themselves. The scheme encompasses the implementation of various initiatives, including the establishment of 'Madhubans' (Bee Parks), community facility centers, honey processing and packaging units, honey information and public awareness centers, honey-themed selfie points, and aesthetic enhancements and theme development focused on honeybees and the environment. Speaking on the matter, Mr. Sathe noted that these initiatives would not only provide farmers and rural youth with a source of supplementary income but would also facilitate the creation of a market for the pure and high-quality honey produced in the Vidarbha region. He stated that, with the objective of boosting employment generation in the rural areas of Vidarbha and providing impetus to traditional industries, the Maharashtra State Khadi and Village Industries Board is effectively implementing various schemes; furthermore, plans have been formulated to undertake several significant developmental initiatives in the near future.
