'If attacks on Hindus do not stop, we will stop export of goods', Shubhendu Adhikari threatens Bangladesh
Petrapole (Bengal): Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Shubhendu Adhikari on Monday threatened the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus in Bangladesh. He said that if the neighboring country fails to stop the ongoing attacks on minority Hindus and their institutions, then an indefinite ban will be imposed on 'export' from the state to Bangladesh through road.
At a protest meeting organized by the All India Sant Samiti, a non-political organization of monks, at the Petrapole international land border in North 24 Parganas district, Shubhendu announced that 'trade restrictions for Bangladesh will be tightened in a phased manner, which will collapse the supply of essential goods from India to Bangladesh. Adhikari participated in this meeting along with several other BJP leaders of the district.
The trade of goods at the Petrapole border remained suspended for 24 hours from 6 am on Monday in protest against the alleged harassment of Indians and minority Hindus in the neighboring country. Traders at the border responded to the call to stop trading. The protesters were mainly led by an organization called Bangiya Hindu Samiti. The traders responded to the protesters' call to stop business.
The official said, "The 24-hour suspension of trade is just a trailer of what is going to happen next."
