'Operation Tiger 2.0' Begins! Shinde Faction Minister Claims: Will 14 MLAs from Uddhav Thackeray's Faction Switch Sides?
Mumbai: Signs of another major upheaval in Maharashtra politics are emerging. Following the defection of six Lok Sabha MPs from Shiv Sena (UBT) to Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, speculation has now shifted to the MLAs.
Gulabrao Patil, a minister from the Shinde faction, claimed on Friday that "Operation Tiger 2.0" has commenced and that more than 14 MLAs from Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT) are set to join the Shinde faction soon.
Patil stated, "Just wait a while. More than 14 MLAs will join him (Eknath Shinde). Eknath Shinde doesn't speak much; he simply strokes his beard. It was Aditya Thackeray himself who previously said that whenever Eknath Shinde strokes his beard, 'Operation Tiger' succeeds."
Shiv Sena (UBT) currently holds 20 seats in the Legislative Assembly. Under the anti-defection law, if two-thirds of the members—meaning at least 14 MLAs—come together to form a separate group, they cannot be disqualified. Consequently, the figure of 14 MLAs is significant.
After six MPs joined the Shinde faction last week, Eknath Shinde had warned in the Legislative Assembly, "This is just the beginning. There are many more shocks to come."
However, the Uddhav Thackeray faction has dismissed this speculation. Following a meeting of Maha Vikas Aghadi MLAs, Uddhav Thackeray had emphasized that opposition unity should not remain merely on paper but must be reflected on the ground as well.
As of now, no UBT MLA has officially announced a move to the Shinde faction. Nevertheless, the minister's statement has sparked intense discussion within political circles.
