“Politics Heats Up Over Women’s Reservation; Praniti Shinde Issues Counter-Challenge to Fadnavis”
Mumbai: Politics in the state has once again heated up over the Women’s Reservation Bill. After Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis challenged the opposition to an open debate, Congress MP Praniti Shinde accepted the challenge and issued a counter-challenge of her own.
Praniti Shinde stated in unequivocal terms that the Congress party is fully prepared to engage in a discussion regarding women’s reservation. However, she demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi also be included in this discussion.
Accusing the BJP, she alleged that while a special session of Parliament was convened in the name of women’s reservation, the underlying motive was actually to push forward the Constituency Delimitation Bill. She further alleged that this move constitutes a ploy to create a divide between the northern and southern states of the country.
Shinde went on to explain that the Women’s Reservation Bill had, in fact, already been passed in 2023. However, conditions linking it to the Census and constituency delimitation were attached to it. She clarified that the Congress party’s stance is that the 33% reservation should be implemented within the existing 543 Lok Sabha seats, without imposing these conditions.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Fadnavis has announced a statewide campaign in support of women’s reservation and has accused the opposition of engaging in anti-women politics.
