‘Social Equality Week’ Organized from April 8 to 14
Nagpur, April 8 – Marking the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, ‘Social Equality Week’ is being celebrated in Nagpur district from April 8 to April 14, 2026. Prasad Kulkarni, Regional Deputy Commissioner of the Social Welfare Department, has appealed to the maximum number of citizens, students, and officials and employees from all government offices to participate in this week-long observance.
A press conference was organized at the ‘Social Justice Building’ (Samajik Nyay Bhavan), during which Mr. Kulkarni addressed the media. Dignitaries present on the occasion included Surendra Pawar (Managing Director, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Samata Pratishthan), Dr. Mangesh Wankhede (Deputy Commissioner, District Caste Verification Committee, Nagpur), Sukeshini Telgote (Assistant Commissioner), and Sukhdev Kaurti (District Social Welfare Officer), among others.
This week is being celebrated in accordance with a Government Resolution issued by the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department of the Government of Maharashtra; consequently, various awareness-building and welfare-oriented programs have been organized through the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Social Welfare, Nagpur.
Today, April 8, 2026, the ‘Social Equality Week’ was formally inaugurated with the ceremonial worship of the portrait of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. Additionally, the week was officially launched through the aforementioned press conference. Subsequently, on April 9, 2026, lectures and elocution competitions will be organized in colleges and government hostels across the district to highlight the thoughts and philosophy of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, to mark the centenary year of the Mahad ‘Chavdar Tale’ (Lake) Satyagraha, and to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Sant Gadge Maharaj. Copies of the Preamble to the Constitution of India will also be distributed on this day.
On April 10, 2026, ‘Samata Doot’ (Equality Ambassadors) will conduct street plays and short skits to raise awareness regarding various government schemes; furthermore, a special workshop will be organized for beneficiaries of the ‘Margin Money Scheme.’ On April 11, 2026, coinciding with the bicentenary birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, various programs highlighting his social work and contributions will be organized. On April 12, 2026, under the aegis of the ‘Constitution Awareness’ initiative, a lecture focusing on the Fundamental Rights and Duties enshrined in the Indian Constitution, along with a women's gathering, will be organized. On April 13, 2026, a gathering for senior citizens, a blood donation camp, and a cleanliness drive will be conducted.

Furthermore, at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Auditorium (Dikshabhumi, Nagpur), appointment letters for government jobs will be presented to the kin of victims under the Atrocities Act, handed over by Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. Additionally, benefits under various government schemes will be distributed to eligible beneficiaries. Other scheduled events will include lectures and seminars, culminating in the conclusion of the ‘Social Equality Week.’
