"Former Mayor Drops Bomb on Ruling Party"-Santosh Borale
Yavatmal, November 9, 2025:-(Special Representative)Former Mayor Santosh Borale has made a serious allegation that the scammers are getting political support from the ruling party leaders in the case of fraud worth crores of rupees in Yavatmal District Central Cooperative Bank. He has also criticized the role of the Independent Advisory Committee (SSB) in this case and has demanded a judicial inquiry into the entire scam. Borale's allegations have created a stir in local politics and a wave of dissatisfaction has arisen among farmers and ordinary bank customers.
Yavatmal Bank is known as the backbone of the farmers in the district. This bank, which runs under the supervision of RBI, NABARD and the Cooperative Department, has now become the center of many scams. The frauds that have come to light in the last few months have tarnished the image of the bank and caused losses to lakhs of farmers and customers. Former Mayor Santosh Borle made these allegations at a press conference held at a rest house here on Wednesday (November 8). His statement drew criticism from the ruling grand alliance government.
Speaking to reporters, Borle said, "The leaders of the ruling party have openly supported these scammers. Due to this, the investigation process is stuck and no action is being taken. SSB is just a show. In fact, due to political interference, scammers are enjoying themselves. The hard-earned money of farmers is being looted, and he is getting the umbrella of power. This is intolerable. I demand that an independent judicial inquiry be held into this matter so that the truth comes out and strict action is taken against the guilty."
If we talk about the background of this scam, many suspicious transactions have come to light in Yavatmal Bank since last year. In a case that came to light in July 2025, local laborers' accounts were used to launder black money. There was a turnover of more than Rs 100 crore in three months, and this money is suspected to be linked to black money in the IPL. Police officers are also alleged to be involved in this. Another sensational case came to light in October 2025, in which Congress MLA Balasaheb Mangulkar alleged a scam of Rs 516.65 crore in the bank. Accordingly, recruitment for 133 posts was done by flouting the rules in the bank's recruitment process, which was suddenly suspended.
Apart from this, in December 2024, it was revealed that Rs 44 crore was embezzled from Jansangharsh Urban Nidhi Bank in Digras. A case has been registered against seven directors in this case, and the transactions in Ner and Darwa branches were suspicious. If we talk about the old case, in 2018, land mafias had defrauded bank customers of crores of rupees by siphoning off their deposits. Similarly, in 2014, a cheque signed by the bank chairman was stolen. Given this chain, the continuous irregularities in the bank have shaken the trust of customers.
There has been no response from the ruling party to Borle's allegations yet. However, local BJP leaders have indicated that this is a political ploy by the opposition party. However, the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party have supported the allegations and demanded that the state government immediately announce a judicial inquiry. Farmers' organizations and bank customer associations have also threatened to take to the streets.
The impact of this scam is not limited to financial losses, but is a blow to the agriculture and economy of the district. Yavatmal is a leading district in cotton production, and the bank, which depends on farmers' savings, is now in trouble. According to experts, such scams reduce trust in the cooperative sector, which has an impact on the rural economy of Maharashtra as a whole.
Although the investigation is currently underway by the police and the cooperative department, progress has been slow due to allegations of political interference. Former Mayor Borle has said, "If there is no judicial inquiry, we will protest on a large scale. We will fight to get the farmers' money back." It remains to be seen what the outcome of this case will be, but there is a possibility of a new turn in Yavatmal politics.
