"I am a Kabaddi player, not a Chess player" – Bhujbal voices displeasure after missing Rajya Sabha opportunity; hints at dynastic politics
Mumbai: Senior NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) leader and Cabinet Minister Chhagan Bhujbal has missed the opportunity to secure a Rajya Sabha seat. The party's decision to nominate Rajendra Jain for the seat has brought Bhujbal's underlying resentment and frustration to the surface.
There had been speculation that Bhujbal would get the chance to fill the Rajya Sabha vacancy created by Sunetra Pawar's resignation. However, instead of acting in accordance with Bhujbal's expectations, the party chose another candidate. Speaking to the media afterward, Bhujbal said, "Others are in the Lok Sabha, and their children are ministers. I, too, have played a leading role since the inception of the NCP. Therefore, I should receive the same treatment."
Without naming any specific party leader, Bhujbal clearly alluded to dynastic politics. He remarked, "As for the injustice—well, this is how things go. If not today, then tomorrow; if not tomorrow, then the day after... I am a Kabaddi player, not a Chess player."
Addressing the proposal he had submitted to the BJP, Bhujbal said, "By the time I presented my proposal to the BJP (seeking a ministerial post for Sameer Bhujbal and a Rajya Sabha seat for himself), only the final day remained. They said they would consider Sameer when the state cabinet expansion takes place. It is not that my proposal was rejected; nor am I upset."
Bhujbal's statements have sparked intense discussion within the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), with speculation mounting regarding which party leader he was targeting.
