"Significant Drop in Birth Rate Among Educated Indians; Elon Musk Expresses Concern"

New Delhi: India's Total Fertility Rate (TFR) has now fallen below the replacement level (2.1). This decline is particularly evident among the highly educated and those living in urban areas. Prominent American entrepreneur and founder of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, has expressed concern regarding this issue.
In a social media post, Elon Musk stated, "The birth rate in India has dropped below the replacement level, and that too among the most educated people." He has termed this a serious demographic crisis.
According to the Indian census and various studies, there is a consistent decline in the number of children among urban populations and young graduates. Factors such as economic pressure, career aspirations, inflation, delayed marriages, and changing social values ??have contributed to this situation. The fertility rate has dropped significantly, especially among highly educated women.
Experts believe that if this trend persists, India could face a future shortage of workforce, an increase in the proportion of the elderly population, and an impact on economic growth. In some states (such as Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka), this rate has already dropped to between 1.5 and 1.8.
Elon Musk has frequently spoken about the issue of declining birth rates worldwide. In his view, "A declining birth rate is one of the biggest threats facing humanity." He highlighted this issue because it is emerging even in a country like India, which has a young population.
There is a growing opinion that the government needs to raise public awareness and revise its family planning policies to address this matter.
