14,298 men received several crores from Ladki Bahin; Ajit Pawar warned
Mumbai, July 26, 2025: A shocking information has come to light under the ambitious ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana’ of the Maharashtra government. While the scrutiny of the beneficiaries of this scheme is going on, it has been revealed that as many as 14,298 men have misused the scheme and snatched Rs 21.44 crore. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has warned of strict action in this case.
‘Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana’ has been launched for the financial empowerment of women in Maharashtra. Under this scheme, there is a provision to give Rs 1,500 per month to eligible women between the ages of 21 and 65 and now an additional Rs 2,100. However, during the scrutiny of the scheme, it has come to light that many men have taken benefits on the basis of fake documents. This has put a burden of Rs 21.44 crore on the government exchequer.
Ajit Pawar has expressed strong displeasure over the matter and has directed strict action to be taken against the culprits in this matter. “This scheme is for the welfare of women, but some people have cheated the government by using fake documents. Legal action will be taken against such people and precautions will be taken to ensure that such incidents do not happen again,” Pawar said in a press conference.
So far, 2.5 crore applications have been filed for this scheme, out of which 2.4 crore applications have been approved. However, now this case of male beneficiaries has raised a question mark over the implementation of the scheme. Orders have been given to re-examine the beneficiaries of the scheme, and legal action will be taken against those who submit fake documents.
This scheme had benefited the Mahayuti government in its election campaign. However, these irregularities have drawn criticism from the government. The opposition parties have strongly condemned this matter and have raised questions about the transparency in the implementation of the scheme. “Is this scheme a shop of corruption?” the Congress has raised the question.
The government has promised to implement strict rules and a transparent process for the success of the scheme. Ajit Pawar clarified that “only eligible women will get the benefit of the Ladki Bahin scheme. For this, new technology and strict verification mechanism will be implemented.”
Although this issue has raised questions about the credibility of the Ladki Bahin scheme, the government has expressed its determination to continue the scheme. More clarity is likely to come in the coming days.
