3.8 magnitude earthquake in Surat, no loss of life or property

Ahmedabad. Mild tremors of earthquake were felt in Gujarat's Surat district late on Friday night. The intensity of the earthquake was measured at 3.8 on the Richter scale. An official of the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) gave this information.
According to an ISR official, the epicenter of the earthquake was about 27 km west-southwest of Surat. The tremors of the earthquake were felt at 12:52 am. An official of the district disaster management department said, “The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 5.2 km from the surface. It was situated on the Arabian Sea near Hazira in the district. There is no information about loss of life or property due to the earthquake.
According to the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority, the state had witnessed major earthquakes in 1819, 1845, 1847, 1848, 1864, 1903, 1938, 1956 and 2001.
