7 new battalions will be formed, 9400 more soldiers will be deployed

ITBP's strength will increase further on China border, Cabinet's decision

New Delhi. The Modi government has taken major decisions in the cabinet meeting today regarding the China border. These decisions include formation of 7 additional battalions of ITBP guarding the India-China border, creation of employment opportunities, infrastructure as well as development of basic amenities, including stopping migration in villages adjacent to the China border. Along with this, the cabinet also approved the construction of Shinkun La Tunnel for the all-weather road in Ladakh.
The Cabinet Committee on Security has approved the formation of a new battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and setting up of 1 Sector Headquarters. The major role of ITBP is to guard the India-China border. For this, at present there are 176 BOPs of ITBP.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that in January 2020, the cabinet had approved setting up of 47 border outposts and 12 camps of ITBP. Their work is progressing fast.
A total of 9400 posts will be created for these battalions and sector headquarters and the establishment of these battalions and sector headquarters will be completed by the year 2025-26. In this, Rs 1808 crore will be spent on construction of office and residential buildings, land acquisition, arms and ammunition. Along with this, it is estimated that Rs 963 crore will be spent every year on salary, ration etc.
