A New Image of Friendship Emerges in Delhi on Bangladesh's National Day; India-Bangladesh Relations Take a Positive Turn

New Delhi: On the occasion of Bangladesh's Independence and National Day (March 26, 2026), a moment of great cordiality was witnessed at the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi. The joint presence at this event of Bangladesh's High Commissioner Riaz Hamidullah, India's Minister of State for External Affairs Kirtivardhan Singh, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri served as a testament to the evolving relationship between the two neighboring nations.
Until recently, it would have been difficult to even imagine such ease and diplomatic closeness between the two countries. However, a new energy and natural ease are now evident in their relations. During the event, Bangladesh High Commissioner Hamidullah expressed a desire to engage in honest and open discussions regarding sensitive issues—specifically trade, security, and the allocation of natural resources. While highlighting the developmental aspirations of both nations, he placed particular emphasis on fostering a "mutually beneficial partnership."
India has embraced the new political reality in Bangladesh and has positioned itself to improve bilateral relations. Bangladesh's Prime Minister Tariq Rahman has adopted a pragmatic approach, placing strong emphasis on establishing friendly ties with India. Under his leadership, the new government is actively pursuing efforts to enhance positive dialogue with India.
The presence of senior officials from India's Ministry of External Affairs lent special significance to the event. While acknowledging India's contribution to Bangladesh's struggle for independence, Kirtivardhan Singh expressed a keen desire to further enhance cooperation for the mutual benefit of the people of both nations.
