An explosion of despair and helplessness! Gram Panchayat office set ablaze in Ratlam after PMAY benefits denied
Ratlam, December 27, 2025: A shocking incident of arson occurred at the Mangrol Gram Panchayat office in Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh. A local resident named Gopal, frustrated by the denial of benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and other government welfare schemes, took this drastic step. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, in which he accuses the authorities of negligence and irresponsibility.
According to the video footage, Gopal poured petrol in the office and set it on fire with a matchstick. The fire quickly spread, but the villagers present immediately doused the flames with water. This prevented major damage and no one was injured. The villagers apprehended Gopal and handed him over to the Salakhedi police outpost. Police said that the accused was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
In his police complaint, Gopal stated, "I have repeatedly applied to the local administration for PMAY, well construction schemes, and other benefits, but received no assistance. My family is facing financial hardship. Due to the continuous neglect by the authorities, I took this extreme step." Investigating officer J.C. Yadav said, "We are collecting all the evidence, including the viral video. Legal action is underway. We will verify Gopal's claims and investigate if there are any shortcomings in the implementation of the schemes."
This incident highlights the weaknesses in the local grievance redressal system and the growing discontent among economically weaker sections. Social activists are warning that the administration must take such cases seriously, otherwise the number of such extreme incidents may increase.
