Ahilyanagar, July 22: Veteran social activist Anna Hazare is deeply saddened by the lathi-charge that occurred during the ongoing student protests in Delhi regarding the NEET paper leak issue. He has written a letter to the Central Government expressing his support for the students' demands.
Anna Hazare has announced a silent protest to be held tomorrow, Thursday (July 23), from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Gandhi Memorial in Wadia Park, Ahilyanagar. This location will be symbolically named 'Nagar's Jantar Mantar'.
What did Anna say?
In his letter to the government, Anna Hazare states, "In a democracy, issues should be resolved through dialogue rather than repression. The incident of lathi-charge against students is extremely distressing. Students have been protesting for the past 25 days. If irregularities occur, accountability must be fixed at the senior level, rather than taking action only against low-level employees."
He further adds, "The government will not collapse if the Union Education Minister resigns. On the contrary, it will send a clear message to other ministers to manage their respective departments properly."
Background of the Protest
The 'Cockroach Janata Party' (CJP) and other student organizations have launched a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi against alleged irregularities in the NEET examination. Anna Hazare has criticized the Central Government's stance following the lathi-charge on students during this protest.
It is expected that this silent protest by Anna Hazare will strengthen the students' agitation.
