Anupam Kher Outraged! Reacts to the use of abusive language against PM Modi during the NEET protest: "I am deeply pained..."
Mumbai: Students staged a month-long protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar against the NEET paper leak. During this protest, some students crossed the line by using abusive and insulting language regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Videos of this incident went viral on social media. Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has expressed strong indignation over this incident.
Sharing a video on Instagram, Anupam Kher said, "The protest has ended. Many things have become clear. When students present their views honestly and firmly, democracy listens to them. A solution was eventually found, and that is the greatest strength of democracy. Now, it is time to move forward, because the country cannot come to a standstill over a single protest."
He further added, "One aspect of this entire episode has deeply pained me. Insulting and undignified language was used against India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a public platform, in front of cameras. This is not merely an issue concerning one individual; it is a question of the culture we are leaving behind for the next generation."
Anupam Kher clarified that while democracy grants the right to dissent, it does not condone disrespect. "We may disagree with a leader, fiercely criticize their policies, and ask questions. That is the very soul of democracy. But when dialogue ends and abuse begins, it ceases to be a debate and becomes nothing more than shouting."
He continued, "Narendra Modi has been in public life for the past thirty years. The people of the country have consistently placed their trust in him. He has dedicated his entire life to public service. It is our duty to respect anyone holding an elected office. I am not saddened by the fact that there was opposition, but I am pained that the language of dissent stooped to such a low level." Anupam Kher finally appealed, “Disagree, by all means ask questions—question those in power—but do not let your language become impoverished. For a country’s true identity is defined more by the language and conduct of its citizens than by its leaders.”
