Approval for the Staffing Structure of the Lokayukta Office

Mumbai, 21st – A revised staffing structure comprising 143 posts for the Lokayukta office was approved during the Cabinet meeting held today. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis presided over the meeting.
Maharashtra is the first state in the country to establish the offices of the Lokayukta and Upa-Lokayukta. Previously, a staffing structure of 87 posts had been sanctioned for these offices. The State Government has now implemented the Maharashtra Lokayukta Act, 2023, modeled on the lines of the Central Government's legislation. Under this Act, the number of members within the Lokayukta institution has increased, and its jurisdiction has been expanded. Consequently, the need arose for additional manpower to ensure the effective functioning of the office. Accordingly, approval was granted for a revised staffing structure totaling 143 posts—comprising the existing 87 sanctioned posts plus 56 additional ones (31 regular posts, 23 through outsourcing, and 2 Information Technology personnel).
