Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Major Statement
“We have many ‘Dhurandhars’ within the Congress; six of them have even been elected.”
Guwahati (Maharashtra Lokmat Correspondent): Following the BJP-NDA’s resounding victory—their third consecutive win—in the Assam Assembly elections, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a scathing attack on the Congress party. Referencing Aditya Dhar’s film *Dhurandhar*, Sarma remarked, “Just as our ‘Dhurandhars’ operate within Pakistan, our ‘Dhurandhars’ are present within the Congress.”
Sarma claimed that the Congress had allotted tickets to 30 candidates who maintained strong ties with the BJP. Of these, six candidates emerged victorious. “We have numerous well-wishers and ‘Dhurandhar’ leaders within the Congress. They are assisting the BJP while remaining within the Congress fold,” Sarma clarified.
Assam Election Results
Total Seats: 126
NDA Won: 102 seats
BJP (on its own) Won: 82 seats
BJP’s Allies (Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People’s Front) Won: 10 seats each
Sarma explained that these leaders are not spies, but rather individuals with independent political careers. “They realized that they would be unable to win elections if they joined the BJP; therefore, by remaining within the Congress, they are serving the nation—and simultaneously assisting us,” he noted.
This statement comes in the wake of the BJP’s hat-trick victory in Assam and has elicited strong reactions from the opposition.
