BJP MLAs' allegations prove baseless; Industry Minister confirms Mundhe's work was proper

Nagpur: BJP MLAs who accused IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe of irregularities in the Nagpur Smart City project have suffered a setback. Mundhe has received a clean chit in the investigation conducted by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) and the police. Industry Minister Uday Samant clarified in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly that no corruption or misuse of power was found in the investigation.
BJP MLAs Krishna Khopde and Praveen Datke had made serious allegations against Mundhe. They claimed that while serving as the Nagpur Municipal Commissioner, Mundhe approved irregular transactions worth over Rs 20 crore in the Smart City project, misused his authority, and signed irregular cheques. A complaint regarding this was filed with the police.
However, these allegations proved baseless in separate investigations conducted by the EOW and the police. Mundhe's appointment as the CEO of Smart City was approved by the then Commissioner. Also, the projects received post-facto approval from the Chief Minister's Office, which included the Chief Minister's signature. The investigation report states that all procedures were followed according to the rules.
Industry Minister Uday Samant provided this information in the Legislative Assembly on December 13. He said, "According to the reports of both agencies, no irregularities were found. These reports will be tabled in the Legislative Assembly." He also said that the report would be tabled as per the demand of MLA Datke.
Meanwhile, Mundhe faces a separate allegation of inappropriate behavior with two female officers. The Women's Commission is conducting an inquiry into this matter. Samant clarified that the Commission's report will be available in a month, after which further action will be taken.
NCP MLA Vijay Wadettiwar mocked the BJP MLAs over this issue. He said, "To satisfy the BJP, hand over this case to the ED and CBI. I had supported Mundhe earlier." This issue was widely discussed in the Legislative Assembly, and the fact that the allegations made by the BJP MLAs were proven false in the inquiry has sparked further debate in political circles.
