Bhopal victims' 'chargesheet' shocks BJP - 41 years of betrayal exposed
Bhopal gas brick case: Victims' organization accuses BJP of betrayal
Bhopal, December 3, 2025: Even after 41 years of the Bhopal gas brick case, the victims who are waiting for justice have made serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The organization Bhopal Gas Pyateen Sangram Sangharsh Morcha has issued a 'chargesheet' against the BJP government, accusing the BJP of cheating the victims and denying them justice. The case has heated up the political atmosphere and given a new twist to the struggle of the victims.
In 1984, there was a leak of methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas from the Union Carbide factory, which killed more than 5,000 people and lakhs of people are still suffering from health problems. The victims who demanded justice after this catastrophic incident have not yet received full compensation. The charge sheet issued by the Sangharsh Morcha states that the BJP, which had made ample statements of support for the victims before coming to power, has limited itself to vague answers after coming to power. "The BJP has deceived us. Now they are planning to build a shopping mall on the factory site, as if it is possible to forget our suffering," said Sangharsh Morcha leader Rashid Khan.
Making detailed allegations in the charge sheet, the victims' organization said that the government protected the companies instead of seeking compensation of Rs 5 lakh crore for the victims. It is also alleged that the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh has been lax in investigating the case. "It has been 41 years, but not a single ounce of justice has been done. BJP leaders bear the burden of our suffering during elections, but forget it after coming to power," a group of women victims lamented.
At the time of the release of this charge sheet, victims in Bhopal took out a march and protested in front of the BJP office. The opposition has also supported it, with the Congress calling it "BJP's fake drama on Bhopal". On the other hand, a BJP spokesperson dismissed the allegations, saying, "The government is committed to the victims and appropriate steps will be taken."
If the matter goes to court now, there is a possibility of political upheaval. The victims' struggle has once again reminded them of the wounds of Bhopal, and it is time for the government to respond.
