This election was not just an election, it was an ideological battle, and this battle will continue with greater vigour.”

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh also said that the opposition alliance secured 40% of the votes in this election, which is remarkable compared to 26% in the 2022 Vice Presidential election.
Celebrations in Tamil Nadu
Radhakrishnan's victory was followed by celebrations in his native Tirupur in Tamil Nadu. Locals burst crackers, offered prayers at temples and set up food stalls. Radhakrishnan is the third leader from Tamil Nadu to be elected as the Vice President. Earlier, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and R. Venkataraman had held the post.
Political Mathematics of the Election
The Vice Presidential election was held through secret ballot and single transferable vote system. The NDA was assured of victory due to its majority in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. 11 MPs from the YSR Congress Party had also declared their support for the NDA. However, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) decided not to vote in the election.
Promise from Radhakrishnan
After the election, Radhakrishnan said, “This victory is a victory for Indian nationalism. We are all one and will remain one. We want to make India a ‘developed India’, and this victory is a step in that direction.” He has promised to strengthen parliamentary democracy and work for the underprivileged in his new role.
Why was the need for the post of Vice President created?
This election was necessitated by the resignation of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. Dhankhar resigned from his post on 21 July 2025 due to health reasons. During his tenure, his relations with the opposition parties remained tense, and a no-confidence motion was also moved against him.
