Caste certificate dispute in Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation: Questions on certificates of 10 corporators including the mayor
Pimpri, March 6, 2026: Serious objections have been raised on the caste certificates of ten corporators including Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Mayor Ravi Landge. These objections have created a possibility of a crisis in the post of mayor, and a hearing will be held before the caste verification committee on Friday (March 6). The complainant Mrunal Dhole-Patil has been called for this hearing.
During the municipal elections, corporators of BJP, NCP (Ajit Pawar group) and Shinde Sena had filed their candidatures from the OBC (Citizens Backward Classes) category on the basis of Kunbi certificates. This includes Mayor Ravi Landage, BJP corporators Harshal Dhole, Dnyaneshwar Jagtap, Tanaji Barne, corporators Aarti Choundhe, Rekha Deokar, Archana Karande, NCP corporator Manisha Lande, corporator Vikas Sane and Shinde Sena's Vishwajeet Barne. All these ten corporators have won the election from the OBC quota on the basis of Kunbi certificates.
Pune-based social activist Mrunal Dhole-Patil has objected to the Kunbi certificates of all of them. He said, "70 to 75 percent of the OBC reservation has been swallowed by the Maratha community. Since the state government is standing behind such people, great injustice is being done to the OBC community. The District Caste Certificate Verification Committee should conduct a transparent and fair hearing. I will fight firmly for the rights of the OBC community."
Meanwhile, Mayor Ravi Landge, speaking about this, said, "My certificate clearly mentions Hindu-Kunbi. All the necessary evidence is available. Therefore, there will be no problem in this regard." The political atmosphere in the Municipal Corporation has heated up due to this dispute, and there is a possibility of tension increasing once again on the issue of OBC and Maratha reservation. Everyone's attention is on how the hearing of the caste verification committee will be held.
