25 OTT Apps Banned: The central government has taken strict action against online porn sites on social media. The central government has banned 25 soft porn apps like ULLU, ALTT, Desiflix Big Shots. This is one of the biggest actions taken by the government so far on soft porn apps. The action has been taken by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The government has also issued special instructions to the Internet Service Provider regarding this decision.
In this regard, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has issued a notification stating that under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Code of Conduct) Rules, 2021, intermediaries are responsible for removing or disabling access to illegal information. The notification states that this step has been taken to curb the dissemination of content that is sexually explicit and violates Indian legal and cultural norms.
The banned apps include Big Shots App, BoomX, Navrasa Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, Jalwa App, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, HitPrime, Fenio, ShowX, Soul Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Hulch App, MoodX, NeonX VIP, Fugi, Mojflix, Triflix.
These apps have been found to be violating various laws including Sections 67 and 67A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, Section 294 of the Indian Judicial Code, 2023 and Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. The government has issued clear instructions to internet service providers in India to disable or remove public access to these websites.
