Chief Minister Vijay’s party takes a firm stand against the NEET exam
Scrap NEET Exam Entirely; Move Education to State List – TVK Party’s Aggressive Demand
Amidst intense student protests in New Delhi against the NEET paper leak, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party has made a major demand regarding the NEET exam. The party asserted that merely preventing paper leaks is insufficient; instead, the entire medical entrance examination should be permanently scrapped.
The party has also demanded a constitutional amendment. It advocates moving the subject of education from the Constitution's Concurrent List to the State List, thereby granting state governments full control over medical education and the admission process. Should there be legal hurdles to this, the party has proposed creating a special concurrent list. The party stated that this reflects both its long-term and immediate stance, noting that Chief Minister Vijay had previously suggested this option.
Criticism of DMK
TVK also launched a scathing attack—without explicitly naming them—on the DMK, the main opposition party in Tamil Nadu. "We do not deceive students for the sake of votes. We do not engage in the politics of garnering votes by making false promises to scrap NEET upon coming to power," the party remarked. It pointed out that the DMK had made a similar promise prior to the 2021 elections.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Vijay met with the renowned Tamil rapper Therukural Arivu, who has been protesting against NEET. Arivu had initially been removed by the police while protesting outside the Secretariat in Chennai but was brought back following the Chief Minister's orders. Opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin had targeted the government regarding the police action taken against rapper Arivu. Expressing strong displeasure over this, TVK stated, “Those who engage in politics over the struggles of others should stop targeting our party.”
