Compulsion to show Marathi films at least 4 weeks a year; Otherwise, a fine of 10 lakhs will be imposed on the theatres
Government decision on Marathi movie: There are frequent complaints that Marathi movies are not getting theaters. Due to this, many producers are unable to release their films despite their quality due to lack of screens. But the state government has taken a decision to give relief to the Marathi film industry. The Ministry of Culture of the state has decided that if the theater does not show Marathi films for four weeks in a year, it will be fined Rs 10 lakh.
A meeting on providing prime time for Marathi films in theaters of the state was held today in Mantralaya under the chairmanship of Cultural Affairs Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar. Dinesh Waghmare, Principal Secretary of Home Department, Kumar Khaire, Joint Managing Director of Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari, Vidya Waghmare, Deputy Secretary of Cultural Affairs Department, producers, directors of Marathi films, owners of theaters and related officials were present in this meeting.
