Congress government withdraws case of stone pelting on policemen, BJP said - 'Height of appeasement'
Bengaluru: The Congress government in Karnataka has decided to withdraw a criminal case registered against the mob that pelted stones at policemen on 16 April 2022 in Hubli. Sources said that this is one of the 43 cases which the state cabinet decided to withdraw in a meeting on Thursday. Let us tell you that Anjuman-e-Islam had given an application to Home Minister G. Parameshwara, after which it has been decided to withdraw the case. Union Minister Prahlad Joshi termed this decision of the government as 'height of appeasement'.
'Government has the right to withdraw cases'
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on this issue, 'The government has the right to withdraw some cases. A cabinet subcommittee was formed under the leadership of the state Home Minister which took the decision as per its discretion and after that the cabinet approved it. I will see what it is.' At the same time, Union Minister Joshi said, 'Unfortunately, the Congress party in Karnataka has reached the pinnacle of appeasement. They withdrew the case registered under UAPA while the matter is in the NIA court. As far as I know, normally the state government cannot withdraw it but still they withdrew it. This is the pinnacle of appeasement.' Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said that cases of many BJP leaders have also been withdrawn.
'Mob of 150 people attacked the police station'
According to the police, an accused had allegedly posted an insulting post on social media. A police officer, 'Around 150 people from the minority community, enraged by the post, gathered near the Old Hubli Town police station in North Karnataka at around 10.30 pm on April 16, 2022, armed with stones and sticks. They (the mob) were demanding the police to hand over the accused to them so that they could finish him off there. The people involved in the mob also warned that whoever protects the accused will not be spared. The people involved in the mob allegedly raised slogans to kill the policemen protecting the accused.
'Many policemen were injured in the attack'
Sources said that the police inspector tried to persuade the people involved in the mob to give up their 'stubborn attitude' and leave from there but they started trying to enter the police station. After this, the mob attacked the policemen with sticks and stones in which many policemen on duty were injured. Not only this, the angry mob also damaged many government and private vehicles there. The officer said, 'After this, Old Hubli Police registered a case against the accused under rioting, attempt to murder, attack on government officials, damage to public property and UAPA Act.'
