Congress strongly opposes Maharashtra budget: '2026 or 2047?' Vadettiwar hits out at government

Mumbai: Congress leader Vijay Vadettiwar has made a scathing attack on the budget presented in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. "Was this budget for 2026 or 2047?" he asked, criticising the ruling government. Vadettiwar said, "This is a budget where marriages will happen today and children will be born in 2047. There is an attempt to mislead the public by throwing around words and figures."
Commenting on the imbalance in the budget, Vadettiwar said, "This budget is not for the entire Maharashtra but only for Mumbai and the MMR region. Rural Maharashtra has been completely ignored by giving priority to projects in Pune and Thane. There is no concrete provision in the fields of irrigation, education and health for remote districts like Nandurbar." He said, "Your words are so complicated that the truth is not understood, my backward village is not visible in the flashy advertisements!"
Speaking on the state's financial situation, Vadettiwar said, "When the Congress fell out of power in 2014, the state had a debt of Rs 2 lakh 90 thousand crore. But today this debt has increased and Maharashtra is moving towards bankruptcy. This government is pushing the state into a debt trap and creating economic imbalance." He also expressed disappointment in the case of farmers, "The announcement of a complete farmer loan waiver was made last year, but it remained on paper. This year too, there is nothing new in this regard, the farmers are disappointed."
Vadettiwar also pointed fingers at the real beneficiaries of the budget. "Only contractors and industrialists are going to prosper from this budget. The government is strengthening itself by taking huge commissions. The backward areas are being deprived by ignoring public welfare," he said.
The Congress party has called the budget 'unrealistic and unworkable' and demanded immediate steps for the development of rural Maharashtra. The debate in the Assembly has raised questions about the ruling grand alliance.
