Court's shadow on farmers' struggle: Pattern of pressure similar to Jarange Patil's, Ajit Navale's attack on the government

Nagpur, October 29, 2025 (Special Representative): The struggle of the farmers' community in Maharashtra has taken a new turn. The Nagpur bench of the High Court has taken notice of the ongoing farmer loan waiver movement led by Bachu Kadu in Nagpur and has ordered the vacating of the protest site. After this order, farmer leader Ajit Navale has made serious allegations against the Mahayuti government. He directly warned that the same pattern of pressure was applied through the court in Jarange Patil's protest for Maratha reservation in Mumbai, which was now being used for the farmers' movement. "This is not only a fight of farmers, but also a fight to save democracy," Navale said, threatening the government with jail time.
Given the background of this movement, Bachu Kadu has staged protests at prominent places in Nagpur for demands such as farmer loan waiver, increasing subsidies for agriculture, and strengthening the insurance scheme. While the farmers were sitting on the road and protesting, the police administration also took a tough stance. However, the High Court order has given the protest a new intensity. Bachchu Kadu and other farmer leaders have become aggressive and have expressed their determination not to withdraw the protest.
Leaders' gathering at the protest site: Question mark on democracy
A large gathering of farmer leaders was held at the protest site this afternoon. Speaking on the occasion, Ajit Navale referred to yesterday's speech and said, "Brothers, my speech yesterday is on record. You all had heard it. I had told you in my speech yesterday that there could be a ruckus. They will take this to court and through the court, they put pressure on them in the way they put pressure on them in a previous protest in Mumbai, the Jarange Patel's protest. We had a suspicion yesterday that the same pattern would be used for the farmers' protest. Today the court's order came. We see that that suspicion has been proven true."
Navale's statement created a wave of anger among the protesters. He further said, "If we give up this fight now, if we make a mistake here, then remember this, there will be no more fight in Maharashtra. This pattern has become that people should fight. Struggle and when the government turns its back, then they should seek help from the court. Our democratic rights should be buried in the ground. If we tolerate this now, no more movement will be possible."
In this context, recalling Jarange Patil's movement, Navale said, "What happened in Mumbai during Jarange Patil's movement. What is happening today in Bachchu Kadu's movement. The same will happen tomorrow in your, our and everyone's movement. Therefore, this is not only a fight of farmers, but at the same time it is also a fight to save democracy. We should understand this."
Court order: Will comply, but no retreat
Speaking about the court order, Navale took a clear stand. "There is a court order. We do not want to disrespect the court. None of us will disrespect the court. Of course, the system due to which farmers are committing suicides. It is disrespecting the farmer, it works. Even if mothers and sisters become widows, it works. We have to follow the court order. We have to maintain peace. But, we do not want to withdraw from the fight."
He appealed to the police and said, "We do not want to disrespect the court and we do not want to give up the fight. We have an appeal to the police. Call the vehicles. Our farmers' children are ready to go to jail. Whatever happens in jail, it should not be a dramatic jail. None of us will accept bail. We do not want to fight for loot. Going to jail means going. We do not want to withdraw." These words caused a thunderous applause in the hall.
