According to the protesting farmers, the Board of Directors of the ‘Bhausaheb Birajdar Cooperative Sugar Factory’ has been consistently evading the payment of outstanding dues worth lakhs of rupees. Farmers are facing financial hardship due to mounting farming expenses, labor costs, and overdue loan installments. Intense resentment had been brewing among the farmers because they had not received timely payment for their sugarcane, even after the factory had crushed and processed the crop.

Earlier, on July 3, 2026, agitated farmers had staged a protest demanding accountability from the administration. At that time, concerned government officials and the factory management had intervened, giving both written and verbal assurances that the farmers' outstanding sugarcane bills would be deposited directly into their bank accounts within eight days. However, even though two full months have passed since that assurance, not a single rupee has been credited to the farmers' accounts. Finally, to protest against the administration's deceptive stance, farmers led by Gurunath Auti launched a symbolic sit-in protest on the premises of the District Collector's office on September 4.
