Dramatic Twist in Pune Legislative Council Election! Sharad Pawar Faction Withdraws to Prevent Horse-Trading; Ajit Faction Candidate Elected Unopposed
Pune – A major political twist unfolded at the last minute in the Pune constituency during the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections. Vikram Kakade, the candidate from the Ajit Pawar faction, has been elected unopposed. This occurred because Shrikant Patil, the city president of the Sharad Pawar faction, withdrew his nomination papers on the final day for filing withdrawals.
According to sources, Sunetra Pawar telephoned Sharad Pawar and requested that "horse-trading"—the unethical trading of votes—be avoided in the election. Following this call, Sharad Pawar gave Shrikant Patil the discretion to make a decision. Accordingly, Shrikant Patil withdrew his nomination in accordance with the instructions of senior leaders within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
Speaking on the matter, Shrikant Patil stated, "Sunetra Vahini had called Sharad Pawar Saheb. Saheb instructed me to take a decision. I have withdrawn my nomination to ensure that horse-trading does not take place. This decision was taken at the senior leadership level of the MVA."
Initially, seven candidates had filed their nominations for this election. Following the scrutiny of applications, six candidates were deemed valid. However, with the subsequent withdrawal of the other candidates, Vikram Kakade secured an unopposed victory.
This development is being viewed as a demonstration of internal coordination within the Pawar family and the spirit of mutual understanding within the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance.
