Election Commission to take strict action against those posting on social media after the end of campaigning
Akola: The intense campaigning for the Akola Municipal Corporation elections has ended. Now, if candidates and parties post any kind of promotional content on social media after the campaigning has stopped, the Election Commission will take strict action. Candidates may face fines or other punitive measures for violating the code of conduct.
During the 11-day campaign, all political parties and independent candidates used various means to reach out to voters. Attempts were made to attract voters through flex banners, hoardings, and loudspeakers. Leaders of major parties held rallies, and star campaigners also made appearances.
The Shinde faction of Shiv Sena held only one rally, in which Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde presented the party's stance. Minister Sanjay Rathod campaigned in the city, but the expected momentum for the party did not materialize. Leaders of the Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena and the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) avoided visiting Akola. However, leaders of the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) participated in the campaign.
AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi held two rallies in the city, leading to discussions that the party's preparations were strong. Prakash Ambedkar of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi held three rallies in the final stages. The Congress also held two rallies, but they were limited to specific areas.
Now, voting will take place on January 16, and the results will reveal who will emerge victorious. However, a warning has been issued that the Commission will take action if any kind of appeal or campaigning is done on social media after the campaigning period has ended.
