FDA's eye on the distribution of prasad in Ganesh Mandal!

Pune Ganpati Festival FDA Guildlines For Ganpati Mandal: During the Ganesh festival, a special inspection campaign is being implemented by the Food and Drug Administration Pune to ensure that citizens get clean, safe food during the festival. A total of 35 food establishments have been inspected in the district since August 11, 2025, and a total of 62 samples of raw food and sweets required for prasad during the festival have been taken from the food establishments for analysis and action will be taken as per the law as soon as the analysis report is received, the Joint Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration, Pune has informed.
Precautions to be taken by Ganesh Mandals!
All Ganesh Mandals should keep the prasad prepared for devotees in a glass vessel or a transparent food grade plastic vessel. So that the prasad is not contaminated with dust, soil, flies, mosquitoes and other insects.
Stale food should not be served to devotees. The clothes of all persons handling the prasad should be clean. The person handling the prasad should start the work after washing his hands with soap / hand wash.
The person handling the prasad should avoid scratching his nose, ears, head and hair or rubbing his eyes. The person handling the prasad should avoid sneezing and spitting, smoking or using tobacco. A person suffering from a contagious disease should not prepare and handle the prasad.
The nails of the person handling the prasad should be neatly trimmed and should not be dirty. Only as much fresh prasad as required by the Ganesh Mandal, especially prasad prepared from milk and dairy products, should be given to the devotees for consumption and the remaining prasad should be stored at the appropriate temperature.
A covered garbage can should be kept for throwing raw food waste and waste of devotees so that the surrounding area remains clean. The water used for washing the utensils used for preparing the prasad should be suitable for drinking. Drinking water should be stored in a clean vessel, covered with a clean lid and only given to drinking water after disinfection.
Before using the vessel, it should be cleaned with dishwashing soap/solution and washed with clean water. Use a clean cloth to dry the vessel and keep the vessel in a clean and dry place.
Use a clean cloth to wipe the hands. The person preparing the prasad should wear gloves and an apron, as well as a hat that completely covers the hair and a face mask. All persons handling the prasad should carefully follow all the rules of personal hygiene.
Meanwhile, Joint Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration, S.G. Annapure has appealed through a press release that Ganesh Mandals that prepare Prasad themselves and distribute it to devotees should register with the Food and Drug Administration Office. For registration, they should go to the website FOSCOS.fssai.gov.in and pay a fee of Rs. 100. They should register with the Food and Drug Administration and obtain a registration certificate. They should also keep purchase bills of raw food items and purchase raw food items only from licensed shops.
