Farmers in Crisis: Congress Launches Fierce Attack on Fadnavis Government, Demanding MSP and Loan Waivers

Dharashiv (Tuljapur): The 'Shetkari Sangharsh Nyay Yatra' (Farmers' Struggle for Justice March)—organized by Congress State President Harshvardhan Sapkal to press for various demands of farmers—received a massive and spontaneous response. While speaking to the media during the march from Suratgaon to Tuljapur, Sapkal labeled the BJP government as "anti-farmer" and launched a scathing attack on both the central and state governments.
Sapkal stated, "Farmers are plagued by both natural calamities and administrative oppression. They are not receiving fair prices for their produce, and farmer suicides have surged. The trade agreements entered into by the Modi government—by effectively surrendering to the United States—are poised to devastate India's agriculture sector and its farmers. The BJP government is unequivocally anti-farmer."
Sapkal expressed deep dissatisfaction regarding the farm loan waiver announced by the Fadnavis government. He remarked, "This loan waiver is akin to a 'deceptive feast'—it is not real until one actually partakes in it. Fadnavis is a liar. The waiver will be considered genuine only when the farmers actually receive the relief. We demand that the farmers' 7/12 land records be cleared of all debt entries and that a Minimum Support Price (MSP) be guaranteed for their agricultural produce."
Sapkal further alleged that the government is turning a blind eye to critical national issues such as inflation, unemployment, and the scarcity of LPG cylinders, petrol, and diesel. "There is a concerted effort underway to impose an authoritarian regime upon the country. By trampling upon the Constitution, a conspiracy is being hatched to mold India in accordance with the ideology of Golwalkar. Here in Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis is violating the tenets of 'Maharashtra Dharma' (the righteous ethos of Maharashtra)," he asserted.
Offering a prayer to Goddess Tuljabhavani, Sapkal said, "May Mother Tuljabhavani grant wisdom to these individuals who are destroying the spirit of 'Maharashtra Dharma,' and may a nation truly envisioned by the Constitution come to fruition."
Speaking on the Ashok Kharat episode, Sapkal described the incident as "repugnant and unbecoming of Maharashtra." “Such charlatans are on the rise because regressive ideologies are proliferating. If ministers, MLAs, MPs, or government officials are found to be involved in this case, action must be taken against them under the Anti-Superstition Act. The identity of the mastermind behind this conspiracy must be exposed. This matter cannot be swept under the rug simply by securing the resignation of the Chairperson of the Women's Commission,” he demanded.
Responding to Chief Minister Fadnavis’s claim that the Kharat case had been cracked, Sapkal remarked, “What exactly were they doing for the past eight or nine months, despite having access to the information? Maharashtra deserves a full-time Home Minister.”
Throughout this tour, the Congress party has vociferously championed the cause of farmers, raising strong demands regarding Minimum Support Prices (MSP), loan waivers, 7/12 land extracts, and other related issues.
