Fast-Track Court Accepts CBI Charge Sheet; Action Against 13 Accused
NEET Paper Leak Case: A special fast-track court on Wednesday took on record the charge sheet filed by the CBI in the NEET paper leak case. Special Judge Anu Grover Baliga accepted the final report (charge sheet) submitted by the CBI against the 13 accused involved in the matter. At the same time, the court granted the CBI additional time to submit supplementary documents related to the case.
During the hearing, the CBI informed the court that the process of scanning approximately 20,000 pages of annexures and evidence related to the case was underway. The agency assured the court that all documents would be submitted within three days of completing this process. After hearing these submissions, the special judge scheduled the next hearing for August 3.
According to sources, following a court order directing the prosecution to appoint a public prosecutor promptly, Advocates V. K. Pathak and Arjun Anand have been appointed as CBI public prosecutors for this high-profile case.
Earlier on Tuesday, the CBI had filed a charge sheet against 13 key accused in the NEET-UG paper leak case. These 13 accused include three paper solvers (experts who solve question papers), two individuals associated with coaching centers, several middlemen, and beneficiary students who purchased the paper.
In the charge sheet filed before the special court, the CBI has invoked sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) covering criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust, and destruction of evidence. Additionally, serious charges have been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
