Former Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Anil Pawar arrested by ED, case of 41 unauthorized buildings is being investigated
Anil Pawar arrested by ED: Former Vasai Virar Commissioner Anil Pawar has been arrested by ED in the case of 41 unauthorized buildings in Nalasopara. The ED has taken this action in the money laundering case. Former Commissioner Anil Kumar Pawar, dismissed Deputy Director of Urban Planning Y.S. Reddy, former corporator Sitaram Gupta and his son Arun Gupta have been arrested by ED in this case. The ED had raided Anil Pawar's house a few days ago. After which this arrest action has been taken.
What is the case?
After the incident of demolition of 41 illegal buildings built on the land reserved for dumping ground and sewage treatment plant (STP plant) in Agarwal Nagari in Nalasopara, the Municipal Corporation had removed the reservation on that land. The Municipal Corporation had issued this notification. Deputy Director of Urban Planning Y. S. Reddy had signed this notification.
This action had affected about 3000 families, but if the Municipal Corporation wanted to change the reservation on the concerned plot, why did it make these families homeless? This question was being asked.
The 41 buildings that were constructed illegally on the land where there was reservation and did not have a dumping ground and STP plant were hampering the development of the city. Therefore, the Supreme Court also upheld the decision of the Bombay High Court to demolish the said 41 buildings and finally the buildings were demolished.
However, it was alleged that this was a conspiracy to demolish the unauthorized buildings on the reserved plot and free up the plot and change the reservation of that place and make the said plot free for the land mafia and construction professionals. The ED suspected that there was a big financial misappropriation for this work. It was seen that there was an unscrupulous alliance between the land mafia builders and the Municipal Corporation officials. Many people had also filed complaints about this. That is why the ED initially raided the land mafia and other construction professionals including the then Bahujan Vikas Aghadi corporator Sitaram Gupta.
The investigation during all these actions had led to former Municipal Commissioner Anil Kumar Pawar. Moreover, in the last days of his transfer, he cleared many types of files, gave CCs to buildings and paid the bills of contractors in different departments. Importantly, the ED has taken this action because Anil Kumar Pawar is somehow connected to the money laundering case in the 41 unauthorized building case.
