Goa nightclub tragedy: 25 dead, club sealed, inquiry ordered
Panaji, December 7: At least 25 people have died after a massive fire broke out at a famous nightclub in Arpora in Goa's North Goa district after midnight on Saturday. After the fire, many people were trapped inside due to the heavy smoke. So far, 25 bodies have been pulled out, and more than 30 are seriously injured. The injured are undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College and other hospitals.
The exact cause of the fire is not yet clear; but according to preliminary information, it is being speculated that it could be a short circuit or gas leakage. The fire was so severe that it took the fire brigade three hours to control it.
Meanwhile, taking cognizance of the incident, the North Goa district administration has immediately sealed the concerned nightclub. The owner and manager of the club have been detained by the police and a case has been registered against them. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant visited the spot and ordered a high-level magisterial inquiry into the matter. It has also announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased and free treatment to the injured.
The incident has spread an atmosphere of grief and anger in the tourist city of Goa, and has once again raised questions about the strict adherence to fire safety rules in nightclubs. Further investigation is underway.
