Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has launched the 'Kanya Vivah Yojana 2025' for poor families. Under this scheme, a financial assistance of Rs 51,000 will be provided for the marriage of a girl. The government said that the objective of this scheme is to reduce the burden of marriage on economically weaker families. This scheme is introduced in the sequence of the previous successful 'Subhadra' scheme, and it will be useful in avoiding the problems caused by wedding expenses.
Under this scheme, the assistance of Rs 51,000 will be distributed as follows: Rs 6,000 for wedding preparations, Rs 10,000 for sarees, jewellery and utensils and Rs 35,000 for other direct expenses. The government has allocated a fund of Rs 60 crore for this scheme for the next 5 years. This will provide relief to families who have to postpone their wedding due to financial constraints.
Eligibility criteria:
The family should be below the poverty line and should be economically weaker.
The girl should be at least 18 years of age at the time of marriage.
Assistance will be available only after the marriage is registered.
This scheme will also be applicable for remarriage of women.
Social Objective: This scheme is not limited to financial assistance only, but also aims to prevent child marriage, oppose dowry system and promote marriage registration. Many families will get an opportunity to participate in the marriage of their daughters with dignity due to this scheme.
