Hemant Soren Oath Taking Ceremony: Hemant Soren took oath as the 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand. Many top leaders including All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended the swearing-in ceremony. Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Soren. This will be the fourth term of the 49-year-old Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader as Chief Minister. Resounding victory in the election
In the recently held assembly elections, Soren retained the Barhet seat by defeating Gamaliel Hembram of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by a margin of 39,791 votes. The JMM-led alliance retained its majority by winning 56 seats in the 81-member assembly, while the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) got 24 seats. JMM has achieved its biggest victory in the election so far. It contested 43 seats and won 34 seats. Congress, which is part of the opposition alliance 'INDIA' (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance), got 16 seats, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) four and CPI (ML) L two seats. Posters of the swearing-in ceremony can be seen all over Ranchi. Security has been tightened in the capital and traffic rules have been implemented.
Hemant's attack before oath
Schools remained closed in Ranchi city on Thursday in view of the swearing-in of the Hemant Soren-led government. Congress' Jharkhand unit in-charge and party general secretary Ghulam Ahmed Mir said that only Soren will take oath and the cabinet will be expanded after the trust vote in the assembly. Hours before taking oath, Hemant Soren posted on the social media platform 'X' saying that "unity is the biggest weapon of the people of the state, who can neither be divided nor silenced."
