I am not involved in the Jain boarding case, I will stand with the community – Union Minister Muralidhar Mohol
Pune, October 25, 2025 (Special Representative):
The illegal sale of the historic site of Sheth Hirachand Nemchand Jain Digambar Boarding in the Model Colony area of ??Pune has stirred up the political atmosphere. There is a Jain hostel and a Bhagwan Mahavir Digambar Jain temple on this 3.5 acre land. The Jain community has staged a strong protest against the sale of this site, and the Charity Commissioner has also stayed the transaction. In this case, opponents like Raju Shetty and Ravindra Dhangekar accused Pune MP and Union Minister of State Muralidhar Mohol of corruption. However, Mohol denied all the allegations after visiting the Jain boarding today.
Mohol interacted with Jain Acharya Gurudev Shri Guptinandji Maharaj and community members. He said, “Some criticized on a personal level, but the Jain brothers did not mention my name even once. I proved my absence with evidence. This issue was raised by the political circles to burn their own coal. I will stand honestly with the Jain community and find a solution at the earliest.” During this meeting, the Jain community also supported Mohol and raised slogans of “Cancel the transaction”.
History of the case:
This land, which is owned by the Sheth Hirachand Nemchand Memorial Trust, has been running as a hostel for poor Jain students since 1958. Some trustees sold it to Gokhale Construction for Rs 230 crore. The Jain community argues that this land was given for charitable purposes and the sale for commercial development is illegal. Acharya Guptinandji Maharaj appealed to all the community brothers to come together and fight.
Political allegations and counter-allegations:
Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana leader Raju Shetty accused Mohol of a “scam of Rs 3000 crore” and said that he had an old partnership with Gokhale Builders. Shiv Sena (Shinde group) leader Ravindra Dhangekar also claimed to have evidence. Dhangekar said, “Mohol gave benefits to the builders when he was the mayor. This land threat should be stopped.”
Mohol responded by saying, “I had exited the partnership with Gokhale Builders 11 months ago. This has been submitted in the election manifesto. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ visit was for political issues in Pune, this matter was not mentioned at all. As an MP, I will try to get justice for the society.”
Charity Commissioner’s big decision:
The Charity Commissioner stayed the transaction on October 20. He accused the trust of hiding information about the existence of the temple. The Pune Divisional Joint Charity Commissioner ordered to inspect the site and submit a report. This has created a wave of satisfaction in the Jain community. hindustantimes.com
Jain community demand:
The Jain community has staged a protest and demanded that the transaction be cancelled before November 1. Acharya Shri Guptinandji said, “This land is for charity. The sale should be cancelled and the property should be used again for the hostel.” The community took out rallies in Pune and called for a hunger strike. lokmat.com
Mohol’s role:
Mohol understood the feelings of the community while visiting the Jain boarding house. He said, “If I had been involved, I would not have come here. I submitted evidence. I will try as per Gurudevji’s expectations.” The visit was live streamed and went viral on social media.
Future prospects:
There is a case in the Bombay High Court. The Jain community has warned of intensifying the agitation. The Mahayuti is also showing a rift due to the Dhangekar-Mohol dispute. Chief Minister Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde are said to have taken cognizance of the matter. There is curiosity as to whether this matter will take a new turn in Pune politics.
Many leaders of the Jain community have joined the fight, and the agitation will continue until justice is served. Although Mohol's explanation has brought some peace, the attacks of the opposition continue. Everyone's attention is on how this matter will be resolved.
