Indian Women's Football Star Grace Dangmei Bids Adieu to International Football

Madgaon (Goa): Grace Dangmei, a key player for the Indian women's football team, announced her retirement from international football on Saturday. She made this announcement immediately after India clinched the SAFF Women's Championship title for the sixth time by defeating Bangladesh 3-1 in the final.
Grace Dangmei, a 30-year-old forward from Manipur, made her international debut in 2013. She went on to represent the country 95 times. With this victory—her third SAFF Championship title—she brought a magnificent conclusion to her career.
Grace was not in the starting eleven for the final match but came onto the field as a substitute. She was later named captain and lifted the trophy during the awards ceremony.
A Glorious Career Journey:
Over a career spanning nearly 15 years, Grace played for prominent Indian clubs such as KRYPHSA, Sethu FC, Gokulam Kerala, and Sreebhumi. In 2022, she joined the Uzbek club FC Nasaf Qarshi, where she scored four goals in 14 league matches and helped the team win both the league and the cup.
SAFF Championship 2026:
The Indian women's team won the SAFF trophy after seven years. In the final, Pyari Xaxa (42nd minute), Sanfida Nongrum (46th minute), and Lynda Kom Serto (82nd minute) scored goals. Throughout the tournament, India remained unbeaten, scoring 18 goals while conceding only one.
