Mumbai: In the backdrop of the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, the condition of hundreds of Indian medical students trapped in Iran has become extremely worrying. The US and Israel have declared a joint war against Iran, which is directly affecting Indians living in the Gulf countries. According to Indian government data, there are about 10 million Indians living in the Gulf countries, including numerous students. Students who went to Iran for education are now facing food shortages and have imprisoned themselves in underground cellars for safety.

The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) said that in the last few hours, more than 18 students have received calls for help. The highest number of calls were received from Isfahan city, where about a dozen students are hiding in underground basements. Students from other cities like Qom, Kerman and Shiraz have also reported blasts, targeted buildings and shortage of food supplies. Times Now has reported this.
According to AIMSA, a total of 32 Indian medical students are studying in Isfahan. The students were shifted to the basement for safety after the attack in the ‘Darvaje-ye Shiraji’ area near their hostel. There were more calls for help on the night of March 7 and the morning of March 8, and the situation is very tense.

Students in Qom, who study at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Shahid Beheshti University and Iran University of Medical Sciences, said they were shifted to other places after attacks on residential buildings. Students in Kerman said that food supplies were running out, while students in Shiraz said they heard explosions in the area. Parents concerned about the safety of their children protested at Pratap Park and demanded that the Indian government immediately bring the students back home. Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan of AIMSA has raised serious questions about the safety of the students and urged the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to take immediate action.
