Iran's Supreme Leader made a statement on Indian Muslims, MEA's blunt reply - first look into your own affairs


New Delhi:India has reacted strongly to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's statement on 'minorities' and has asked him to look into his own affairs. India has hit back at Khamenei's remarks on Indian Muslims and called it 'unacceptable'. In an X-post on the occasion of Eid-ul-Miladunnabi, Khamenei accused Myanmar and Gaza of persecuting Muslims and linked them with Indian Muslims, after which the Indian Foreign Ministry has reacted. The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement, "We strongly condemn the comments made by the Supreme Leader of Iran regarding minorities in India." Regarding Khamenei's statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said, "These reports are incorrect and unacceptable. Countries commenting on minorities are advised to look at their own records before making any comments about others." What did the Supreme Leader of Iran say? The Iranian leader had said in his post on X, "If we are oblivious to the suffering of a Muslim in Myanmar, Gaza, India or any other place, then we cannot consider ourselves Muslims." He said, "The enemies of Islam have always tried to make us indifferent about our common identity as the Islamic Ummah." Comments Khamenei's comments have come at a time when Iran continues to face criticism for the suppression of Sunni Muslims.
